Pray with us at 7am or 7pm

Each day during the week join in with your family and friends at 7am or 7pm (or both!) for a brief time of prayer each morning or evening. Below you’ll find a short Bible reading with a thematically written prayer, along with several free prayer points for you to pray through.

Week of May 25-31
Each day, read through Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. The prayers will focus on one or two verses.

Monday

A PASSAGE TO GUIDE OUR THOUGHTS:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8; vv. 1-2

A PRAYER TO USE:
O Lord,
We are reminded in these verses that all things here on earth are subject to change; that all times, seasons, and matters are in your hands. We are thankful that, from the time appointed for our birth, to that of our death, our lives are under your sovereign, watchful eye, according to your providential goodness to us. The farmer plants, the crops grow, and the field is turned under once again, according to the seasons established by you. Likewise, nations and their leaders come and go, but in heaven there is your unchangeable counsel regarding all things. Faithful Lord, we trust in you, and on the soft pillow of your Providence we lay our heads at night. Amen .

A FEW FREE PRAYER IDEAS:

  • For new babies and the families who welcome them
  • For comfort and strengthening for those who have lost loved ones
  • For farmers and all those along the food supply chain, to be able to supply the needs of those who are hungry
  • For believers to trust in God’s sovereign plans without understanding them

Tuesday

A PASSAGE TO GUIDE OUR THOUGHTS:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8; v. 3

A PRAYER TO USE:
Sovereign Lord,
We weep over the terrible loss of life, here in our own country and around the world, as a result of the coronavirus. We mourn over the brokenness of our world, and we pray that you will bring a time of healing to the nations. O Lord, we pray that you will break down systems and governments, wherever they exist, that are opposed to your righteousness, justice, and truth; especially that you will break down the dividing walls that keep lost souls from coming in faith to Jesus, the Savior. In their place, we pray that you will build up your holy name, for you alone are worthy of all honor and glory and praise. Hear us, we pray, O Lord. Amen.

A FEW FREE PRAYER IDEAS:

  • For the families and friends of those who have died during the pandemic
  • For the Church to help in the healing and rebuilding process as life turns to a new ‘normal’
  • For physicians, nurses, technicians, researchers, administrators, and all other healthcare employees and responders around the world; grant them strength by your life-giving Spirit, wisdom, and resources to do the work before them

Wednesday

A PASSAGE TO GUIDE OUR THOUGHTS:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8; v. 4

A PRAYER TO USE:
Our Father,
We have been reminded, during these days that have been sad and difficult for so many, that even on our best days, we should rightly weep and mourn over our sin and disobedience toward you. Yet in your goodness, according to your great mercy and kindness, all is not sadness. Christ, our Great Redeemer, lives! We thank you, Lord, that, weeping or laughing, mourning or dancing, these are moments made for worshiping our beautiful Savior, Jesus. In his name we pray, Amen.

A FEW FREE PRAYER IDEAS:

  • Give thanks that, though “our sins, they are many, his mercy is more”
  • For those who are overwhelmed by their circumstances during these days, to find relief and strength and joy in Jesus
  • For the Church to find ways to joyfully serve those in need

Thursday

A PASSAGE TO GUIDE OUR THOUGHTS:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8; v. 5

A PRAYER TO USE:
O Lord,
As we anticipate being together soon in our new church home, help us to remember that buildings come and go--even Solomon’s Temple was destroyed, leaving not one stone on another. Only you, Eternal God, remain unchanged forever, so help us to remain steadfast in our worship of you. And though it’s now a time to refrain from embracing, we pray that, soon, we will know the comforting embrace of our brothers and sisters once again. We look to you, Lord, in these and all things. Amen.

A FEW FREE PRAYER IDEAS:

  • For many years of faithful ministry for Christ and his kingdom at 16511 Hilliard
  • For deep and lasting friendships within Parkside Westside, that reflect the love of Christ
  • For the safety and effectiveness of the workers at the building, as they move toward completion

Friday

A PASSAGE TO GUIDE OUR THOUGHTS:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8; v. 6

A PRAYER TO USE:
God of all Wisdom,
We thank you that there are times in our lives for seeking and gaining and keeping that which was hard-earned, when we may know little of want or need. Many of us have been reminded, during these unusual days, that there are also times when what we have sought and kept are soon lost. Teach us to seek after what matters most, in Christ and the wisdom that comes from knowing and pursuing him; and help us to cast away anything that might shipwreck our faith or bring dishonor to your name. For Jesus’ sake and in his name we pray, Amen.

A FEW FREE PRAYER IDEAS:

  • For deepening relationships with Jesus among us at Parkside Westside
  • For the Holy Spirit to convict us when we hold too tightly to this world and all that belongs to it
  • For wisdom for Christian leaders as they make plans for their churches to begin meeting again in person

Saturday

A PASSAGE TO GUIDE OUR THOUGHTS:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8; v. 7

A PRAYER TO USE:
O Lord, our God, Bring comfort and healing to those who are in such anguish in their spirit that their hearts are torn. Bring to mind your goodness to Job, who, though he tore his garments in anguish, they were sewn again after his trials. Give us wisdom, we pray, to keep silent when words would cause or compound sin; or to speak--words of comfort or rebuke, soft words of encouragement or bold words in defense of the gospel--as the circumstances demand. May we be gentle and lowly as Jesus, in whose name we pray, Amen.

A FEW FREE PRAYER IDEAS:

  • For wisdom in the moment to be silent or to speak, as needed
  • That Jesus’ love for us would compel us to seek out those who are lost
  • For those who have become unemployed or underemployed during this pandemic; grant them faith to trust you for all that they need

Sunday

A PASSAGE TO GUIDE OUR THOUGHTS:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8; v. 8

A PRAYER TO USE:
God of Love and Peace, In this final opposition of pairs, we are reminded again of the changeability of all things this side of heaven. There is much for us to love, most notably Jesus himself; but there is also that which we should hate, especially sin and its effects. On earth we will always have wars and strife, which make us long for heaven, where all will be harmony and peace. Lord, all things are appointed in their times and seasons, according to your most loving and wise providence, and that is enough for us. In Christ we pray, Amen.

A FEW FREE PRAYER IDEAS:

  • For the love of Christ to rule our hearts
  • For the Spirit’s help in hating sin, confessing, and repenting towards God
  • For many to respond to God’s Word in saving faith
