In this sermon the preacher shows that the final picture in the psalm—the guest and the host—reveals the Lord’s lavish hospitality as he personally prepares a table, anoints our heads with oil, and fills our cups to overflowing. Even in the presence of our enemies, God’s protection and provision remain steady, and his goodness and mercy actively pursue us all our days. Ultimately, the Lord leads his people home to dwell with him forever, fulfilling our deepest longing for belonging and fellowship. Through the gospel, Jesus invites the lost to come into his house, and through the Lord’s Supper, believers taste again the wonder that the Master of the house eats with his servants and calls them his friends.
