Jesus Questions the Questioners

This sermon centers on Jesus' question to the Pharisees about the identity of the Messiah, drawing from Psalm 110:1. While the Pharisees rightly answered that the Messiah would be David’s son, Jesus pushes them further by asking how David could call his own descendant “Lord.” The answer reveals that the Messiah must be more than a man—He must be divine. Jesus is not only David’s son but also David’s Lord, the one who perfectly fits the “big chair” of God’s eternal throne. He reigns even now, seated at the right hand of the Father, a position of power, authority, and honor. The sermon invites listeners to move beyond mere theological agreement and into heartfelt allegiance—confessing Jesus not just as risen, but as reigning King. It challenges us to consider what (or who) holds the throne in our lives and calls us to renew our loyalty to Christ, who rules with both majesty and mercy.
