Isaac & Jacob: The Family of Promise

Jul 05, 2026 | Matt McAlvey

Like Father, Like Son

This sermon shows that while sinful patterns often pass from one generation to the next, God’s faithfulness is even more enduring. Isaac repeats many of Abraham’s failures, yet God continues to keep his promises, providing for him, protecting him, and reminding him of his abiding presence. The passage encourages believers to recognize their own vulnerabilities without despair, because God’s covenant mercy is stronger than human weakness and failure. Ultimately, the hope of the gospel is found in Jesus Christ, who entered our broken family story not to continue the cycle of sin but to break it through his perfect obedience and steadfast love.
