Matthew: The King and His Kingdom

Living in Light of the End
In Matthew 24:36–51, Jesus teaches that no one knows the day or hour of his return—only the Father does—and therefore his followers must live knowingly, alertly, and faithfully. His second coming will be sudden, like the flood in Noah’s day or a thief arriving in the night, separating the ready from the unprepared. Believers are called to stay awake to this reality, living with integrity, purpose, and urgency rather than distraction or indifference. The faithful servant remains diligent and wise while the master is away, while the careless servant lives for himself and faces judgment. Jesus’ words call his people to live every day in light of the end—awake to God’s purposes, steadfast in obedience, and confident that the Lord who once gave himself for them will surely return in glory.
