Isaac & Jacob: The Family of Promise
Aug 02, 2026 | Matt McAlvey
No Heroes, Only Sinners
This sermon reveals a family marked by favoritism, manipulation, deception, and selfish ambition, showing that no one in the story emerges as a hero. Each person attempts to control God's promises rather than trust God's timing, yet God's covenant purposes continue to unfold exactly as he intended. The passage reminds us that while God never approves of sin, neither is he defeated by it, and human failure cannot derail his redemptive plan. The hope of the gospel is that Jesus bore the guilt of sinners like us, so we can stop trusting our own schemes and instead rest in the faithful God whose purposes never fail.
