Sorrowful Heart, Merciful God

In Luke 18:9–14, Jesus teaches that our heart posture before God matters more than our outward appearance or religious accomplishments. The Pharisee took pride in his status and obedience to the law, while the tax collector humbly acknowledged his sin and pleaded for God's mercy. Jesus declared that the tax collector, not the Pharisee, went home justified because he approached God with genuine humility and repentance. This passage encourages us that no one is beyond God's forgiveness when they come to Him with a repentant heart, and it reminds us that Jesus is the ultimate solution for our sinful and broken world.
