Matthew: The King and His Kingdom

The Greatest Commandments
This sermon explores Jesus’s response to a lawyer's question about the greatest commandment. Drawing a modern comparison to AI’s ability to distill complexity into clarity, the preacher highlights how Jesus synthesizes the entire Old Testament law into two foundational commands: love God with all your being, and love your neighbor as yourself. While simple on the surface, these commands are revealed to be deeply challenging, exposing the inadequacy of outward religious performance and calling for sincere, whole-hearted devotion. The sermon underscores that before we can obey, we must first receive Jesus as a gift, whose perfect love and obedience on the cross make forgiveness and transformation possible. True Christian living, then, flows not from law-keeping, but from grace—and expresses itself in love both vertical (to God) and horizontal (to others).
