Matthew: The King and His Kingdom

Mar 22, 2026 | Matt McAlvey

The King on the Cross

This sermon shows how Jesus’s crucifixion reveals his true kingship through humiliation, suffering, and mockery. Though those around him see weakness and defeat, Jesus is actually exercising power by willingly giving himself to save his people through self-giving love. The cross exposes both the depth of human sin and the greatness of God’s mercy, as the innocent King bears the guilt his people cannot remove themselves. In the end, the place of death becomes the place of victory, where the curse is reversed and sinners are invited to lay down their shame and find new life in the crucified King.
