Matthew: The King and His Kingdom
Mar 15, 2026 | Matt McAlvey
The Roman Trial
This sermon shows how Jesus’s Roman trial forces every person to confront the question of what they will do with him. Pilate encounters and even recognizes the truth about Jesus’s innocence, yet ultimately rejects it because fear and political pressure matter more to him than justice. The crowd chooses Barabbas, revealing the human preference for a savior who changes circumstances rather than one who confronts the heart. The scene ultimately reveals the meaning of the cross: the guilty go free because the innocent Jesus takes their place, offering forgiveness and new life to all who trust in him.
