Matthew: The King and His Kingdom

What Does Jesus Deserve?

This sermon portrays Jesus’s trial as a moment where justice collapses, false witnesses distort his words, and the innocent Son stands silently before a predetermined verdict. When pressed under oath, Jesus clearly reveals his true identity as the exalted Son who will be vindicated and rule, turning the courtroom into a warning that his judges will one day stand before him. The scene exposes how people often reject a misrepresented version of Jesus while resisting the real one who speaks with divine authority. The sermon concludes that Jesus deserves more than curiosity or polite respect—he deserves a fair hearing, true trust, and wholehearted worship, for the one who did not deserve rejection accepts it so that sinners might receive mercy.
