Our First Baptism Service
Posted by Matt McAlvey on
Friends,
Sunday was a monumental day for us as a church when we gathered together at Edgewater Park and baptized eight men and women. In these past ten months, as a local church, we’ve done a number of things for the first time: worshipped together on Sundays, shared in the Lord’s Supper, met together in Community Groups and shared in a baby dedication. Now that we’ve been together for nearly a year these things that we get to do for the first time are starting to taper off. However, we still look forward to future days when we will add more elders to our leadership team, send out men and women into gospel missions work and even commission those who will church plant from us. We still have a few more things to do for the first time and Sunday was one of them as we had our first baptism service.
Baptism is one of those rituals that is unique to the church. People may have all sorts of theories as to which kind of people should get wet and when and exactly how much water should be used. However, Christian churches since the birth of Christianity have always baptized new converts because baptism is a type of entry point into the community of faith. It was our privilege to do this together as a church family. These are exciting days for us and I hope that you share in the joy and responsibility that belongs to each of us.
