In a society that values qualified workers, with the highest level of productivity, taking the shortest amount of time to accomplish their tasks, Jesus doesn't seem to value any of these things when choosing his 12 apostles. He instead chooses uneducated, common men. He desires that their top goal is that they'd just be with Him. He doesn't ask them to be speedy, but asks them to be faithful.
