Matthew: The King and His Kingdom
Feb 23, 2025 | Matt McAlvey
The Beginning of the End
This sermon focuses on Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, marking the beginning of the final events of His earthly ministry. It emphasizes two key themes: the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy and the exaltation of Jesus as King. Jesus' choice to ride a donkey, as foretold in Zechariah 9:9, reveals His humility and mission as the prophesied, peaceful, and Savior King. The crowd’s response—laying down cloaks, waving palm branches, and singing "Hosanna"—demonstrates their recognition of Him as the long-awaited Son of David. However, the sermon also highlights the contrast between those who welcomed Jesus with praise and those who dismissed Him, foreshadowing the coming rejection and crucifixion. Ultimately, it calls listeners to recognize Jesus as both the humble King who brings peace and the coming King who will return in glory.
